[News] Rare, but nasty D2X-XL bugs fixed

I have done a lot of play testing with the 64 bit version of the game the past few days, which has yielded a bunch of crashes that usually only happen after extended periods of playing time and intense fights. Actually I hadn't planned that - I wanted to record some cool in-game scenes for a new D2X-XL video, but after a few (occasional) crashes I decided to do both - test and record. So I compiled a fully optimized version of the game with debug info turned on and ran the program in the debugger while fighting and recording my way through various levels. The result was worth it - I have caught a few rather rare, but nasty crash causes.

Man, Karx, you're dominating the news board. :D As always, your hard work and dedication to D2X-XL is appreciated. I don't think I've tried the 64-bit version recently, but I need to get it sometime to see how stable it is now on my computer (it's always been a little iffy, likely because of my integrated Intel graphics). It's possible you've corrected the crashes that I'm encountering.
I, for one, hope this is much, much more than a reconnaissance mission.

Will have to try and download the newest version b/c it may have fixed the crash I'm getting on startup (not the same as the SDL-Image crash).

Actually this program is more my programming playground. I hardly ever play Descent myself anymore. I hardly play computer games at all anymore - been there, done that, so to speak (or with the bible: There is nothing new under the sun). ;)

Admittedly, I haven't been playing Descent that often either. There are a number of reasons why, though.

-Because I have a lot of school work to take care of.

-Because I got Portal 2

-Because I've been using a computer more to write/draw than game lately.

-Because my new laptop doesn't have Descent of any type installed on it yet (mental note to self: fix this lamentable oversight).

-Because I got Portal 2

-Because my old laptop, which DOES have Descent on it, is only turned on once every now and then, with gaming usually being the last thing on my mind when I need to use it. Plus, as I've mentioned several times before, it won't run D2X-XL, at least not very efficiently.

-Because I was never really that much of a gamer to begin with.

And...um...

...did I mention I got Portal 2?

It wasn't me, so I don't know. You can change a user's reputation rating every hour? That makes this feature wide open to abuse. Just powering up people because you like them is not better than powering them down all the time just because you dislike them.

I think it would be better to just show you a total of how many +/- somebody has. For example I'd have 5 instead of... wait wtf? Wow. From -1 to -7 in 1 day? Aren't you overreacting just a little bit, Karx?
