Well if you did there is a good chance that they did things differently.  So you definitely shouldn't assume that other schools do the same thing.

Well, I don't specifically recall being taught that in fourth grade, but then again, fourth grade was quite awhile ago.

At any rate, I study English, and try to make a concentrated effort to avoid that particular error when writing (and others like it) but even then I still make the error without meaning to, so I think there's more to it than just plain ignorance.

Not really a pun, but he misused/ misspelled words throughout a rant about misused/ misspelled words to make a point.
Smart people look like crazy people to stupid people.
