Thanks for the links! There was one specifically for Overload as well, right? I think I remember seeing that during the Kickstarter campaign, but I never actually checked it out.

An Overload forum? Never knew that existed. I've been playing the game on the PS5. It's quite fun to play.

If I look back at these posts I wrote, I'd probably feel embarrassed and ask myself, "Why did I act so dumb?"

A Discord server, not a forum. I managed to find a handy beginner's guide on r/Descent that has a link to it and the ones TechPro mentioned, among others. I haven't so much as touched Descent in well over a decade now (hell I backed Overload and never really touched it), but I'm trying to recapture my roots a bit. I didn't even know about the most recent D1/2 source projects, to say nothing of what's been done with D3's source so far, so this guide is handy for getting up to speed on everything.

And heh, I'd love to have an easy way to see what awkward teenage me was writing way back then, as much as it'd make me cringe. On a whim I was picking through what the Wayback Machine had of PD.com some 20-odd years ago, and I was honestly getting choked up a bit. That place was my original Internet home, and it still hurts a bit knowing that it just unceremoniously vanished and only exists now in that incomplete form. I was exploring some of the threads on here from around that time too (has it really been 15 years...), because I honestly don't remember most of how it went down. Like I'm posting back then about trying to email people at GameSpy/IGN to get a site backup, but I have almost no memory of doing that. I guess memory is the first thing to go. I do remember not handling all of that very well, and I regret not seeing the writing on the wall and posting more here while it was still active.

Kind of a shame to see most of this place broken beyond the forums though. Was it just a case of it not being worth fixing given how little traffic the site probably gets?

Probably a large part of it, yes. Of course, as I recall, WillyP was the one most involved with the site's under-the-hood maintenance, and I haven't seen him around here in quite some time.

The system does report WillyP has been around as recent as June this year.

By the way, the Overload Discord server is called simply "Overload" and it is fairly active.

I had to google discord vs forum. I've heard of discord, just never tried it.

How time goes by. I called myself "Vanguard" which is an Atari 5200 game by the same name. A time my dad was alive, and he passed away in '09.

Yeah largely that, and no one was uploading pic of the day or the other stuff, it's hard to stay motivated when there's like one post a month or so.
