Locate Me - Edition 006
« on: November 03, 2011, 04:17:47 PM »
It's the "Locate this Descent Pic Game"  Edition 005

Let's see who can identify:
  • What Descent 3 single player Level this is a pic of?
  • Where in that level the player is at (describe as best you can)?
  • Extra bonus:  Point out something unique about the level or the location

Can you correctly identify this location?  This one is a tough one. Hint: There are 4 other secret rooms identical to this one, and they are all nearby. Oh yeah, and sorry for the Ass cam. I got carried away when I got my hands on the String files :P
[Don't ask about the gallery image not here. The gallery simply does not work.]

The score stands at:
  • IHateHackers = 1
  • Kaiaatsel = 1
  • NUMBERZero = 3

Level 11, off to the side of the tunnels where you destroy the forcefield generators. Something unique? It's the prequel to the most fun mission in the Retribution set? :P

It was actually the rear view that gave it away, I was totally stumped before. But I recognized the tunnel design.

Great job! That "ass view" also had a turret in view just in case.

Not bad at all.  For me, the 'rear view' didn't give it away.  Been to that place enough to recognize it.

Yes, well... I'm not sure if I've ever legitimately played through Retribution, so... :P

But I had a hilarious event happen playing through the level to check my answer. I was leading a bunch of squids and whatever the other big bots with EMD are called through the lower area letting them hit each other, I was almost out of space to run... And BAM one of the threshers shoots at me out of the side and blows up 2 of them with 1 shot.

Yeah, me too.  Too slow though.

@IHateHackers your "interesting fact" is an opinion.  In my opinion this isn't the prequel to the most fun level in the Retribution set, it is itself the most fun level in the Retribution set.
Level 11 is by far my favourite ever D3 level.

Isn't it also your personal favorite too? ;)

It IS a very nicely designed level, with great architecture, and a great classic Descent feel to it of sorts. :D And good music, I absolutely adore that level's song. Probably my favorite of the whole Retribution soundtrack.  8)

It is ... one of my favorites.  I actually don't think I've ever decided on a specific favorite.

Something I've always thought was unique about this level was it's use of security cameras.  Much more than any other level and always with a threat hazard.  This level kept you on your toes.

Ok, IHateHackers, you're up.  Make it a good one.

Yes, the security cameras were a very nice touch. I remember on my first play creeping around every corner with MD looking for cameras. And was promptly reminded this time exactly that was when I flew into the dead-end with the glass and got nailed by about 6 frags and went kersplody.

The camera alert sound effect is the same as the self-destruct alarm from D1 and D2.

Yap.
And the level's colour scheme is very similar to level 15 of D1, which was also on Titan.

The mine area at the beginning looks kind of like the section of D1 level 15 where you get the red key (but with the D1 level's structures re-interpreted as the mine-cart turntable -- it's the same shape).
