3D models from photos?

Apparently you can take photos of an object with a standard camera and this new software from Autodesk can convert them to a 3D model.

oshi-. That's epic if it actually works. Wonder if it'd work for movie captures as well?

Really, really, cool!  ;D

To answer your question, IHateHackers, it seems that in order to make an accurate detailed model, you need more than one photo of said object from multiple angles (in a vid i watched explaining it, ten is indicated to be around the ideal number). So for screengrabs from movies, if it's just one, then no dice. If several with different angles, then by the sound of it, yes.

Either way, this is pretty cool technology. I think the ability to do this before has been around, but it wasn't nearly fine-tuned enough to make it readily available for the public to use.

I'll be testing it right now.
If it actually works, it can change the way we do our models.

I mean, its... W-O-W.

I know there was a program a while back for blender, that if you had a web camera, and an IR laser, you could scan the object and get it nearly perfect every time.

This one is without any IR, its just requires a cam and a strong box.

You don't need a strong computer, it's cloud-based.
