Descent III Mouse Movement WAAAAY Too Sensitive
« on: August 18, 2011, 07:28:39 AM »
I realize that when you try to play an old game on a newer computer, things happen.

Anyway, the only real problem I have with playing Descent III on my Windows XP machine is that the mouse movement is way too sensitive.  Changing sensitivity settings in the game options doesn't help.  I've tried the obvious stuff.

To give you an idea of how sensitive it is, I moved my mouse just from one side of the mouse pad to the other (average sized mouse pad) and my ship turned around completely over 20 times.

Any ideas?

Sounds like you might have mouselook on. If you do, turning it off should fix your problem. :)

Yes, it's true that turning mouselook off will restrict the turn rate.

(IMO, there shouldn't even be a mouselook option, because the Descent ships have always had a maximum turn-rate, and spinning a ship around in a fraction of a second breaks the classic Descent feel).

However, I think it's still a good idea to figure out why the game is so super-sensitive.  Things to look at:
1. Windows desktop mouse-speed.  Is it cranked up?
2. Poll-rate / dpi (do you have a 'gaming mouse' where you can adjust the polling frequency or dpi setting?)

About that sensitiveness... I don't have much idea, but Foil's have it I think.

I had the same sort of "oversensitiveness" in D2x-xl, not in D3-I'm not complaining about it, though..:D

For D2X-XL, I believe the same things apply for fixing it.

I'm getting the same problem or something like this using d1x rebirth.
I move the ship with the mouse, and it will keep on spinning, never stopping. deadzone at min or max seems to be doing nothing.
