Change Exit theme on D2X-XL?
« on: June 08, 2011, 12:52:01 PM »
Is it possible? Is there some kind of command line switch? Would be cool! I have MANY alternative exit theme ideas.
I like to think I have a Descent taste of music.

I would assume, if nothing else, you can replace it in the hog files.

Exit theme? Are you talking about the music? Doesn't that work via D2X-XL's custom music feature?

IIRC, XL doesn't has the feature to change D1 Exit Sequence music, if that's what Alieo is talking about. (only Level, Credits, Briefing and Menu music can be changed AFAIK).

Yeah, I'm referring to the song that plays as you exit the mine. It used to be the regular Descent exit MIDI theme, but recently it's silent. I don't know why. I was wondering if it can be replaced with an ogg file or something.

Actually, I think I played one D1 level that had different exit music...sadly I can't remember which one it was, so it'd be difficult to replay it and find out if I'm remembering that right...

It was by Luke Schneider and the gimmick was that he redid all the midi music for every part of the level (the in-game music was from EON X though).

I've been looking for it too and I can't remember the name either.

The better question is how did he do it? Does D2 allow you to package custom exit music with a level?

He included a custom escape.hmp in his hog file.  That's pretty much it.
And btw, this was D1.

The reason this doesn't solve Alieo's problem is that you can only do that with midis (hmp/hmq) -- not with the custom ogg music feature.  And if I understand right, in his case midi music is not playing period because he's using the ogg music for everything.  So it wouldn't make any difference if he replaced the midi with another midi - midi songs still wouldn't play.
Besides, he was asking about ogg music.

I have no idea why it's not playing exit music. It just stopped suddenly. But yes, I have oggs for everything else. And, I don't know about y'all but my D2 mines don't have an exit sequence. I thought that was normal. I know in the D2 demo version, it shows you the exit tunnels of levels 1-3, in D1 style, but in the regular version, it's cinematic exits or nothing.

Lol, no exit sequence in D2 is normal.
We were talking about D1 levels and I think people got confused (because it's D2X-XL).
Either that or they haven't played D2 in a while.

It was by Luke Schneider...

That actually narrows it down for me a fair bit, so much so, I THINK I might have an idea what level it was, but I would want to check first.

This means I'm going to have to lug out the old laptop though, because I STILL haven't installed Descent of any sort on the new one (mental note to self).

Exactly as Alter said. D2 never had D1 style exit sequences, only movies.

That's also why Pumo Mines (with some extra support on XL to use movie sequences for fan-made missions) uses cinematic sequences for level endings. ;)

Another mental note to self: Play Pumo Mines, now that I have a computer that should run it decently for a change. :P
