some more live cams ...  http://bp.isevil.org/    (note what the web address "says")

Yes.  Very, very ugly mess that will be a serious impact for probably well over a decade perhaps far longer than that.

I'm very sad to see pictures of wildlife mired in this stuff.

There was a bigger spill than this, in 1910. Oil gushed out of a well for over a year. Being on land, they tried to build a berm around it.

There is nothing as sad as a baby dolphin, washed up on a beach, covered in oil and dead. :(

They put a moratorium on new permits for offshore wells, until they can investigate the relationships between the inspectors and the owners and managers of the rigs. Offshore drilling has a good track record so far but the potential for damage is so great, one mistake is a major disaster. And if the cause of this disaster is the cozy relationship between inspectors and inspectees, heads need to roll.

What amazes me is that we never had a contengency plan for all of this.

But of course, it has to be a little more complicated than what's portrayed in the video. I mean, cleaning up isn't going to do that much good until they plug the leak that's letting more oil spill into the ocean, and seeing that it's so deep...yeah, it can't be easy. Still, while they're trying to figure out how to plug the leak, they should be doing something about cleaning up what has spilled and keep it from spreading further.

So yeah, I have to agree, that video certainly portrays what it seems like BP's actions are about all of this.  :-\
