Happy New Year, PD!
« on: January 02, 2018, 10:09:26 PM »
Happy New Year guys!  I don't come on here a whole lot anymore (maybe once or twice a year), but I still play Descent 1 and Overload every now and then.

How are you guys liking the modern day resurgences of D:U and Overload?

Happy New Year, Eagle! Good to see you around again. Overload is killing it right now; I have nothing but positive things to say about it... I think It's shaping up to be the best Descent yet. Can't wait for the whole thing to drop this year. Sadly, that and Psychonauts 2 are really the only two games I'm looking forward to in 2018. I'm hoping something surprises me.

D:U's player base is on life support now. I'm not complaining; I got my money's worth early on in development. T'was fun while it lasted.  :P
I, for one, hope this is much, much more than a reconnaissance mission.

Happy new year to all. :)

I've personally been keeping fairly low-brow about both Overload and DU, so to minimize my exposure to anything spoilerish and to maximize how much of the final game feels fresh and unseen when it comes time to play them. IMO Overload is doing better than DU, but at the same time, I wouldn't rule DU out of the running just yet, either. I think it can still pull a decent Descent game out. But we shall see.

Sectorgame is Hunter's website/forums for his mods. Overload is a totally new 6DOF FPS developed by Revival Productions (owned and produced by Mike Kulas and Matt Toshlog).

If you haven't checked out Overload, I highly recommend you do. It's been in Early Access most of the year, and now has a fair amount of content (5 singleplayer levels, 10 challenge mode levels, over a dozen weapons, and almost two dozen robot types). I probably sound like a broken record or an overly pushy salesman, but really, Overload is unquestionably Descent. They're looking for a full launch sometime I think around spring or summer.

Of course, it also goes without saying that if you haven't checked out Sectorgame and Hunter's mods, you should do that as well. They're awesome and really push the boundaries of what Descent 3 could do.  ;)

I would have to agree.  Overload is awesome, and a great spiritual successor to the Descent games.  Descent Underground is cool because of all the 'modern' features but it's not my cup of tea.  Fully support Descendant for removing the game from early access.  Excited to see what the final product will look like in the end!
