Your 'two cents' on a very possible scam
« on: November 04, 2017, 09:49:04 PM »
Hey all, what's up?

I'm 99% to 100% sure this is a scam, but never really saw it in a letter form that seems so convincing.
My wife received a letter in the mail from Wells Fargo Education Financial Services. It has her first name, middle initial and maiden name. I only know the last four digits of her account, and it shows those digits at the end.

It talks about a temporarily removal of the trade line from her credit file. It also states we can call a consumer reporting agency  such as Eqilfax, TransUnion, Experian & Innovis.

According to Wells Fargo online and Google (also maps), the Wells Fargo address, their contact number on the letter, and two of the four agency numbers are not matching with the info on the paper.

We plan to call Wells Fargo (not the number on the paper of course) to see what is going on. If this is a scam, they may have our account number. It doesn't show x's with a few numbers at the end. It's all numbers.

Thought i'd tell you and sort of curious what others say. It doesn't look/sound good.

What do they want? You haven't mentioned anything that sounds like they are asking you for anything.

However, I do agree, if you have doubts, call a number that you know to be for Wells-Fargo and ask questions and tell them what's in the letter.

It sounds like it was just brought to our attention about removing the trade line. No action is required.

We called the official number, not one off the sheet of paper. It was legit, nothing to really worry about.
Odd to have numbers or an address that doesn't pop up right away on google/maps saying it's Wells Fargo.
