Today, Earth will pass through the plane of Saturn's ring, making them effectively disappear. Here is a composite pic showing the progression starting six years ago:



As explained at the APOD site, We have had a good view of Saturn's southern pole, as Saturn tilts relative to Earth we will now get a view of the north pole.

Neat. Planet looks really different without the rings. :P

I've always wondered why the rings are in just that one spot... it'd be cool if a planet had a set of three or something. :P

This is awesome though, i should go dig out my old telescope and see what i can find.  :D
