Know of any good clouding sites
« on: July 23, 2014, 05:03:36 PM »
I love Amazon and it's clouding system, but I was looking for a specific clouding site that I can share with my fiancée and her family.
Anyone know of any good ones that are trustworthy, hopefully not google.

Thanks!

I use Dropbox and it works well for me.
Although, I don't really use clouding very much.

I've used both DropBox and OneDrive, and I like them both, but the one I use the most (almost everyday) is OneDrive. OneDrive also has the advantage that it can use the same Microsoft Live account used to log on Windows.

But DropBox has more features and can be a bit more robust, so it's your choice. :)

I got confused with Drop box. looking at it now, is there a way I can upload it from their site, or do I have to download some program that allows me to upload files?

You don't need the app.  I never even installed it.

Okay, I found it. Not sure how I missed that page before...

anyways. I have noticed a folder "public". This is ideal, as I want my fiancee and her parents to share pictures and videos. How does that work on One Drive and DropBox?
Would they be able to load videos & pictures themselves without see the non-public folders?

I know there's facebook and neither of us care for it. I understand Facebook would be used for sharing and not clouding.

Any more help would be apprecaited. I want more so, for her family & us to share videos and pictures back and forth.

I use Dropbox, and it's more or less like a file manager. You can choose to share a file or an entire folder simply by using the "Share Link" option - but I'm honestly not sure how long each link stays valid. It's probably not the best for file sharing, to be honest. There's always the option of sharing an account with everyone who needs access to it, but it's not an elegant solution.

Still, I like how the Dropbox applet works in the Windows system tray, the Mac OS X menu bar, and most Ubuntu-derived Linux distro's trays. It automatically downloads and updates files on each computer its installed on, so that helps keep everyone updated whenever something gets posted  ;)
I, for one, hope this is much, much more than a reconnaissance mission.

Heya Vanguard, it's a bit of a late reply, but check out Copy.com (yes, that is a shameless referral link, you get an extra 5GB for that compared to just signing up yourself). I think you'll find this has all the features you need. I just use it to backup and sync files from my phone to my PC, but you can also share folders between accounts, and shared folders split the file quota between them which is different than most file sharing sites. I've been using it for about a year and I really like it. It's unobtrusive, efficient, and it gives me way more free space than Dropbox (5GB for both referee and referer is pretty good).

It's also backed by a few pretty big names, so it's not going anywhere and it's trustworthy.
