Oh pish posh. You know it could be a heck of a lot colder around here than -9 F.  In fact, if memory serves, in the past it typically HAS been at least slightly colder than that around this time of year anyway. It's actually been a rather mild winter for us  this year. ;)

After a very early start this winter is being fickle.
Today is only -7 Celsius with no wind.  But earlier this week it was -30 for a few days...

I'm expecting the windchill to go down to -50 eventually.  It does every year, and I don't think this city will have last year's luck again either.

-30 Celsius?  (That's -22 Fahrenheit). Chilly.

-50 C would be -58 F

A downright frigid 33° F here in Birmingham, Alabama.  ;)

Personally, I find this kind of weather quite pleasant. That said... I'm not sure how this southern man would handle below-zero temperatures.  :P
I, for one, hope this is much, much more than a reconnaissance mission.

Having seen people from down south experience below-zero weather for the first time before, I can tell you that it probably would not go over well for you. :P

Temps got above freezing here in NH, seems like a heat wave.

Scyphi, I think you'd be right. Alabama can sometimes get pretty cold for a southern state (18 or so degrees F isn't terribly uncommon), but most of the time it's dry, calm air. Sunshine, no wind, just cool northern air settling in for a week or so.

However, I do recall a time when the temperatures dropped into the teens and it got pretty windy. The wind chill dropped to zero. While I was out camping. On the side of a mountain. In a completely open wooden shelter facing towards the valley. Basically, the wind whipped us around all night long; I don't remember getting any sleep in my poor little wal-mart sleeping bag. The next night? Five guys cuddling in a four man tent. Truly uncomfortable bonding experience, there.  ;D
I, for one, hope this is much, much more than a reconnaissance mission.

Yeah, us southerners can't handle the cold, but you just come on down here in the summer when it's 105ºF (more or less 40ºC) 98% humidity, and see how you like it. ;)

90's too hot for me, much less anything approaching 100, but that's the price you pay for being more tolerant of that colder weather. :P
