Everybody who has ever tried a CTF game with standard Descent 2 will probably have experienced quite a disappointment: Descent lacks the features to provide CTF mechanisms the way people are used to, like e.g. in Unreal Tournament.

There is a cure for this, and its name is D2X-XL. D2X-XL offers a full-blown CTF mode (dubbed "CTF+") with the following features:

• Flags will always spawn in their home base after scoring
• A team can only score when their flag is in their home base (i.e. flag goal)
• A team can return their flag to its home base by touching it
• DLE-XP and D2X-XL offer team-only spawn points: Players of a team will always spawn at one of these spawn points
