Title: Planet Descent Website Upgrade
Post by: -<WillyP>- on October 03, 2011, 05:12:32 PM
Planet Descent will be upgrading from Blue Lasers to Vauss Cannon on Sunday, the ninth of October, 2011.

During this upgrade the site may at times be unavailable, as I will be using a cloaking device.

Guidebot is coming back to get you.

Update: Mission Completed. A few bots remain, I will be hunting these down and destroying them as time permits. See the 'To Do' list in this thread.

No, the site was made from a back-up of this site, from before you were registered here. And registration is closed, I'll open it for you if you want, but let me know when you have registered so I will approve it.

Or just wait till Sunday. ;)

Hmm, a little off topic, but I still am not sure if I'm entirely happy with the blue color of the actual posts in the forum...Probably wouldn't have thought about it before, but I guess I've found through the time I've been using Dusky 2 that I like the black color of posts.

Then there's the fact that the blue seems a bit too bright to be proper classic PD blue... :-\

Other than that though, looks good, can't wait to put it to proper use. :)

The site will be deleted, except for the theme. Or maybe not, I might leave it there to use to tryout stuff.

Mission completed. Still a few tweaks needed, but report any anomalies in this thread, please.

Still to do: (so don't report these, please ;) )
Add links in the menu: Reactor, Downloads, Articles Download link added, there are no articles, need a link to Reactor.
Fix button 'Hide enclosed from Suspicious Visitors' (where did that come from?)
Add Alio's robot icons.
Tell people about the new spoiler button.
In your profile, choose one of two themes, PDdark (default) or PD light.

Okay, one issue... I found that you have to highlight the titles of songs in the gallery... err... "MEDIA" section.

In an aside to the audience :I think WillyP is half the reason this community is still together:

On with the play:
Hamlet: To be... or not to be.  That is the question.

Rozencrantz: Actually, that's wrong.  The real question is: When do we get to use Alieo's awesome robot icons?

PD light theme is a little nicer. took a little while to find it. I must have been the first to select it to. I saw something like "116 are using PD dark" and "0 are using PD light".
(few minutes later)

lol, I am still the only one. 118 using dark, 1 using light.

-----------

Okay, what is "view toggle view"?
I understand the "hide enclosed from suspicious visitors" button needs fixing, but what does it do? hide stuff from guest? sort of like spoiler, but not click-able to the average guest? or of a certain post count?
Title: Re: Planet Descent Website Upgrade
Post by: -<WillyP>- on October 10, 2011, 09:06:23 AM
Not sure what the toggle does.

The hide I think hides content from guests, and visitors who are on certain lists of known spammers, or maybe it is triggered by certain behaviors. If you need to publish an e-mail addy that is what it is for. Though, I would not rely on it being safe. Remind me when I have some time I'll look into it. Same with the robot icons, please remind me in a few days if I forget.

Where is the style selection now? I don't like this one too much. Very bad signal to noise ratio.

the different theme?

Up where you see home, forum, help, etc, go to "Profile - Account Setting".

Right below that menu, go to "modify account - look and layout" You should see the option to change the theme.

I'm still the only one using this. weird.

Vanguard,

I browsed through all the account settings for a quarter of an hour (before first posting here) - to no avail. I don't have an option to chose another forum theme there.

You should be able to hover over "Profile" and click on "Account Settings"

Then, there's another menu below those, one saying "modify profile". Hover over "Modify profile" and then click on "look and layout"

It should show you a list of things you can change. on top of the settings shows "change theme". go way to right of the screen and click on "change"

You mean Signal + noise to noise ratio, don't you :P.
(I can't resist, I'm taking a Perception course).

In all seriousness, I looked at all the other themes and they were worse (IMO).
There's really only the default and one that's the same on a white background (for me the white adds even more noise than the black).
And I agree I liked the old theme better.  But this does look more like classic PlanetDescent.

all the other themes? aren't there only two? I like light because it's more clean looking. I think a lot agree, the classic PD.com looked great.

I think I liked the black background color for posts the old theme had better, but I'm slowly getting used to the blue.

Though I still think the blue's too bright...

which blue? from PD dark or light?

The light is nice; the light blue here could be of a darker blue. but I'm not complaining.

No, I am meaning signal to noise ratio. You can form a ratio out of these two alone, you know? What you are computing is a percentage of the total information, not a direct comparison.

Take some more lessons, will you? :P (Math would be a good idea)

I couldn't resist either.

Vanguard,

I found it. It's at the very top of the "look and layout" page. Literally, it says "Current theme: Forum or Board Default (change)", where "change" is a link. This is as counter-intuitive as ever possible. All the other selections have drop down boxes. This one is hard to notice.

All the available themes are bloody unreadable for me. These background rows with the irregular shapes in them are way too obtrusive. The color scheme hurts my eyes. With the previous software version I had a theme using black text on white background. Very tidy and highly readable.

PD light has blue posts in it?  :o

It's PD dark.  ;) I think the blue should at the very least be several shades darker.

I think that's what WillyP was shooting for with PD light. Guess he didn't succeed...  :-\

Bug with the default theme -- the code box text color is white. The code box bg color is white

Code: [Select]
therefore I'm not all that readable

I'm curious. Why is there a help section when all it talks about is "Tinyportal"? I think it'd be nicer in the "tinyportal" menu.

looks like all emoticons have now changed. a combo of  8) and  >:( . someone not happy with sunglasses :)

I agree, the help section is not the place to plug the software. I am going to re-write the menu, but priorities are paid work first. I just haven't had the time to spend here as I would like.
