Title: A momentous occasion...
Post by: Matthew on May 26, 2011, 01:30:00 PM
Today is/was my last day of high school... Forever! And a hell of a ride it's been...

I'm really excited to be finally done and moving onto bigger, better things, but for the moment it's largely overshadowed by the fact that many of my friends I will probably only see a few more times, ever.

Looking back, I know I've changed a lot over the years, both as an online personality and as a person. I'm sure I don't need to tell you guys here... This was pretty much the first online community I joined, and there are many people here who have watched me mature over the years, probably longer even than many people at my school.

But as a person, the last few months have really changed me as a person more than anything. I've been through so many different things in just the last few months it still surprises even me. Rejection, loss of a classmate, watching a friend grieve... But also seen some amazing deeds of kindness, and grown closer to my friends. I've acquired a completely new perspective on life. I've learned that it's the people in it that make life great, not some figure in a bank account. I've learned to make each moment count, because these are precious times that won't last very long. So it only makes it more sad that so many of friends are going away, but I'm also trying to learn to let go of the past, and look to the future, and focus on making it brighter than ever.

I know at least some of what I've been through recently has shown up here in my moods and attitudes, and now you know as a little of why I may have been acting strangely. You're probably not used to me posting like this, it's usually not really my style. But sometimes you just need to let something out.

But, enough with the sappy, sentiminetal stuff...

I'm graduating, woohoo!  ;D :D :o

Congrats! It IS actually kind of exciting to have high school done and ready and move on to bigger things in life. Like Vanguard said, it certainly isn't going to get easier, but in a way, it's kind of a good thing. :)

And, with high school out of the way, now you can focus more on what you want to do with your life. 8)

So apparently my history book somehow got swapped with somebody else's, and the book that I turned in was not my book. Apparently whoever did have my book didn't turn it in. So now, 1 day before graduation, they feel fit to inform me that I need to find the book I don't have, or pay 60$ for a brand new one. Even though the book is probably only worth 5$ in that condition and is probably sitting in some locker or some shelf somewhere.

I do so love the public school system. Were I not graduating this year, I would vow to always check the book I turn in, and not turn it in if it's not mine. Teach these freakin book thieves a lesson. I had the same thing happen to me last semester, except that one finally showed up.

It's not really about how much money it is, it's about me having to pay them for a book I didn't lose.

Couldn't you tell them it was stolen?
It sounds to me like it's common enough in your school that they'd believe you.

Shouldn't you get credit for the one you *did* return?

That would make sense.  :o

They can't prove I returned one, because they just had us stack them all up and they went through them by barcode later.

It's not really that common, I just really *bleep* luck when it comes to social studies books. Maybe I subconsciously lose track of them because I think the class is so worthless.

Umm... I just saw this. Congrats! I don't miss HS one bit, but as the rapids of the river of life move ever faster the farther graduation date gets behind us, the harder it is to stay in contact with friends who go about their own lives and start their own families. My point is, KEEP THE BONDS GOING.
