Title: Using all 4 ships
Post by: drahazar on January 08, 2011, 12:36:20 AM
Hi,
Me again. I now have D3 setup and working but I'm sadly limited to the Pyro. Is there a way for me to be able to use all three ship with-out plodding through the single player. Downloads or something??
TIA

You should have all 3 (or 4 if you have merc) automatically for multiplayer, so it's probably a different problem.

The server has the ability to disable ships, so possibly the game you joined was limited to the Pyro?

This is the most likely case. If you're playing Single Player, you don't get a new ship until level 7, unless of course, you've already beaten the original single player missions. For multiplayer, you may have some trouble getting the BP to work, but everything should be available, unless the server specifies it.

Lol I forgot about that because I don't play on those severs (and my brother doesn't like me to do it on our LAN servers).

yeah, he's talking about single player, not multiplayer.

I think 7 is the phoenix, 6 is where you save that person in the phoenix.
and that hot sun map, 10 was it, or 9, is where you get parts for the magnum.
I think it's 9. yeah, sounding more right as I say it.

I thought the phoenix pilot had already died... it doesn't say anything in the game about the pilot being alive or not alive.  In the book he was alive, but the ship was a starhawk and the "level" was on the Beagle.
And yes, it was level 9 (I have a good memory for these things... it helps that I never really stopped playing since I got D3 for the second time around 2006).

I think it's assumed that the phoenix pilot is dead, since he's crashed and been dragged into the homunculus den by the aliens.

Maybe Homunculus ate him :).

The crashed "Phoenix Intercepter" (as it's referred to in that level) was found by our hero in the same area as the Homunculus and the Homunculus does try to take big bites out of you ... though the Phoenix is secured by a force field when you get there and the Homunculus is asleep in a closed side chamber...

I always figured the pilot had perished.

It's the dravis stronghold mission where you retrieve the live pilot. I believe it's 13, directly before the PTMC Proving Grounds.

Just before the PTMC Proving Grounds was the PTMC Storage Facility where Dravis supposedly had a live pilot held prisoner. (Descent Mission Chronology (http://www.prepare4descent.net/guidesforum/index.php?topic=45.0))

You know, the way that one turns out, I've always kind of wondered if the live pilot was 'bait' to help you get captured ... but oh well.  The fun of the Proving Grounds always made getting captured worth it.

Proving Grounds is 12. 11 is retrieving the pilot. it's because of the ending of that level 11, that brings you to the proving grounds

I always thought Dravis used that pilot as bait, and then killed him afterward.  It would fit into his character from the books (at least the last one, which is the only one I've read), for sure.

Did he kill him? I don't think the game tells you, but yes, that was bait.

There are two explainations for the captured pilot on Level 11.

1) He really was a captured Red Acropolis pilot and he happened to say "take the left chute." After that:
a)He went through the right and escaped because of dumb luck that his chute wasn't the trap.
b)Both chutes were traps and he was sent to the proving grounds in his trash can.

2) The guys on the Beagle were idiots and couldn't tell if the new information that they recieved about a captured pilot was a trick or anything. Like they didn't have a duty roster on their ship that made sure everyone was accounted for. Then they sent the MD to go rescue the pilot with the upmost confidence that he was one of theirs. And then the escape WAS STAGED.

IT'S A TRAP!

Until that mission I had thought MD1032 was their only pilot as well.  But if that was the case you'd think they would figure it out... they can't be that stupid.

They had someone rescue Dr. Sweitzer on Lv2.

And obviously someone has to pilot the beagle! :P

Of course I also thought when they said pilot they must mean pyro pilot.  Despite the fact that he's in a ship that looks like Shuttle Serendi..p..it...y... it was 10 years ago!

That particular ship used by the 'captured' pilot always looked to me like a floating Christmas ornament.  Nothing sneaky about it at all.  It screamed "Look at me!" so loudly with it's array of little lights on it's 'fins' it's no surprise that you would be going to sleep while trying to keep from running over it's back end while following it through the passages at what was probably it's best possible speed because it didn't have any more power available to the engine.  No wonder he'd been supposedly captured.  How could Dravis' henchmen have missed spotting him?  For that matter, they had probably caught up with his ship in their sleep.  Dravis: "Capture that ship."  Henchman: "Already done, sir.  It was blocking our view and blinding us."

His voice was... wierd...
He sounded like Harrison Ford (as Han Solo obviously).

Especially wierd if you compare what you hear with what you see at the top of the screen.
On a related note we're planning some voice acting for the full release of Army of Haloon (esp, for MD0071Q).
