Title: invalid cd
Post by: gene on February 05, 2010, 09:41:40 AM
Hey guys!

Why do I get the message "Invalid CD" message when I try to open up Descent 3 to play?

I just can't seem to get the things working.

Thanks ahead of time.

Cheers,
Gene.

Try the "No-CD" patch (available at Descent3.com (http://descent3.com/downloads.php)).

Note: If you haven't already, I'd suggest patching to v1.4 first.

Foil!

D3 is working now.  I took your advice.  Thanks so much.

Now, if I could get the ship to move faster when I throttle up. ;D

Best.

Do you know tricording? Basically, slide in two directions, (ex: up and left) while moving forward, and pulse the AB? I don't think most people use a throttle, your best using just forward and back. (not sure if you meant 'throttle up' literally)

Thanks.

Actually, that's bi-chording (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strafing_(gaming)#Straferunning).  Full tri-chording adds a third direction of thrust (e.g. forward+up+left).

Try bi-chording first until you get used to it, THEN add the third thrust (note that you'll be at an odd angle to the direction you're travelling).

Pulsing the afterburner (max boost is when the AB level is between 90-100%) just adds even more speed.  :)

Ok, maybe I worded it not the best, but that's what I meant.

At the expense of stealth (not a problem in single-player though)

I've also found that pitching the nose of the ship around at random (i.e. pulling up/down, turning left/right at random) while tri-chording is extremely helpful in CTF games if you have a flag - it makes it difficult to determine the player's actual flight direction (unless someone gets directly in line with you). I've scored quite a number of points, even when well-outnumbered, using this method.  ;D

Ah, I see now; I misunderstood.  My apologies.

I may have a solution. Did you download the Duel Jewel fix patch?

I think he's got it working. I suggested that patch on his first "Could not initailize keyboard" problem, as well.

No idea why questions like this always make me laugh. ;)
