Title: New to Planet Descent, Not new to Descent
Post by: RaginCajun72 on March 03, 2016, 04:51:09 AM
Long time player here.  Though I only recently found D2X-XL and was about to knock off the dust of my CDs, I thought it would be better to just download the D2 from GOG or Steam...until...well, I just now noticed that they disappeared.  After googling why, I found you guys!  Then saw this really cool Coffee mug on Zazzle.  --------->

Anyway, thought I'd donate and get me a 6DoF Frosty one and just thought I'd drop in and say Hi.

I had already purchased 1 and 3 digitally in the past. Can't say why I didn't do the same for 2 at the same time.  Guess I was always just more of a fan of 1 more than the other two.  I tried really hard to like 3 but the mouse-look controls were always 'too fast' and made game play difficult.  I'm sure if I browse the files here I'll find some fixes for 3 and probably go ahead and re-download it again.

Now I have purchased Descent:Underground, under the impression that they will indeed release a single player campaign to go with it, but now that I saw Overload is in the works.....I'm excited all over again.

I know I know so much good stuff.
Good to see(-ish) a new face(-ish) around here, we don't get too many on this site any more.

By the way I go by Splotchie over on Descent: Underground and the Overload boards.  And everywhere else by... many other names.

:)  Nice to meet you.  I'm currently offshore for the last time, and do not have an internet connection I can download games from.  So I will definitely download D:U when I get back home and look you up.  I'm also on Steam as well: hjguillory

Welcome. Seems you're just in time for something of an extensive Descent revival, so you're timing's pretty good.  ;D

Apologies there isn't more activity around here. PD's ranks aren't as numerous as they once were.  :-\ But...we still try to make the best of it.  :)

Thanks for the warm welcome.  If that's the case...then I'll make myself at home and help keep the place a bit more active.....Time to get started with another run through of D1.  I never finished D2, so I might just tackle that too...

Hey welcome RaginCajun!

By the way, if you still haven't got the chance to, you should definitely play Descent 2 Vertigo.
It's much better than the main D2 campaign and a must play for every Descent fan!  ;)

I'm looking it up now, on online to see where I can buy it.  I used to have the CD set pack of all of them, but since I never beat D2, I never made it to Vertigo.  I think the set pack might have been sold in one of our Garage sales.   :'(

Oh heck, nevermind....I found the mission files here (http://www.gog.com/forum/descent_series/the_definitive_collection/page1), on GOG's forum.  I hope that this isn't a 'pirate' download.

Oh yeah!  My mug came in!  and she's a beauty!  360° of frosty glass awesomeness!  Can't wait to get back home from this trip and start filling it up with some delicious coffee or tea!

Welcome, and glad to have you here!

Definitely finish D2... That's my favorite single-layer campaign of the 3 (if you couldn't tell by my callsign ::)). Other recommendations are Vertigo, as was mentioned, DarkFlameWolf's incredible D1 mission set "Descent Vignettes," which really pushes the boundaries of what could be done geometrically with the original D1 and D2 engines, and the Descent Maximum campaign, which was ported by a fan to the PC version of the game.

There are plenty of others as well... Trust me, you could spend the next five years working through some of the custom missions, especially if you check out some of the D2X-XL specific missions.  ;D

We'll let you get through some of those first, but I can also suggest some fun custom missions as well, especially in the D1 range, of which there's plenty.  ;)
