I will ask of those who survived, please accept my thanks on behalf of all those who did not.

This. :)

I'm guessing this memorial day is like our ANZAC day?
-
What is your ANZAC day like?
For many in this country it's just a day off, have a bbq, go shopping.
Memorial Day is a day to remember those who gave their lives for this country, and for the cause of freedom for us all.

We also have Veterans Day, to honor those that did survive.

I like that, WillyP. Very true.
Sadly, my Memorial Day this year had some unexpected sadness. My oldest brother was found deceased in his trailer that morning. He had died around 5 to 6 days previous.

That is sad, my condolences.
-
I can't even imagine how hard that must be, TechPro. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

@WillyP
In Australia and NZ ANZAC day comemorates NZ and Australian servicemen(and women) who have died in wars and peacekeeping. It has a particularly strong focus on the Gallipoli landings of WW1, this year's one was big here because Gallipoli was exactly 100 years ago.
My condolences Techpro.

In Canada and the rest of the commonwealth we've got Rememberance Day on November 11th... I don't know about anyone else but I always try to spend some of that day meditating on sacrifices, even though it's also my mom's birthday.
The May long weekend is Victoria Day so we've at least got some license to celebrate then. Although this year I had to work the friday and the saturday anyway.
I'm really sorry to hear about that Techpro. Times can get hard, and this sounds like some pretty hard times.
