Many of us already knew Descent had come to Steam. As of today (February 19, 2014), Descent II is also available on Steam! If you don't already have Descent II, this would be a good way to start. Get Descent II on Steam (http://store.steampowered.com/app/273580/)
I don't know (as yet), but I suspect the Descent II on Steam setup may use DOSBox like it does for Descent on Steam. However, I'm sure some enterprising soul will soon have a method to put D2X-Rebirth in it thus bypassing the need for DOSBox and improving graphics/options.
Of course, you can also get Descent and Descent II from Good Old Games (D1 and D2 from GOG (http://www.gog.com/game/descent_1_descent_2)) and that may save you a couple bucks.
Either way, you want to get Descent and/or Descent II legally? It's easy now!
By the way, Descent 3 is also available through Good Old Games. (D3 from GOG (http://www.gog.com/game/descent_3_expansion))
