Uhhh I don't get it. :-\
-
It's from Merc, the level with the Queen Bee.
-
I know that, but I still don't understand what it's about.
-
It's about the Aliens. They are working on a teleporter, but it seems to be buggy.
-
I still don't get it.
At least, I don't think so. :-\
-
Yeah, I gotta agree. Don't get it.
Unless ... it's referring to that "odd" white area that seems detached from the rest of the map. That is a artifact from how Descent 3 handles items. If a portion of the map is shown in advance from one of the cutscenes, that portion of the map may be semi displayed in the map even though you haven't been there yet. An example: When you start the level with the listening station ... the cutscene shows a bit of the outside of the level. While playing the level use the map and you'll see a portion that you can't possibly get to yet shows the outside of the station. This was done to help provide the views for the cutscene.
Of course ... I am guessing here. This is my assumption as to "why"

Yep, I think D3 adds a room to the AutoMap whenever the game first renders it. Since a room gets rendered during a cutscene, it will show up in the automap even if you haven't been there yet.
I think TP's right about that being the cause of the odd spot in that screenshot.

Are you talking about the jaggity area?
-or-
the teleporter rooms?
-
Here's a thing for ya. There are no cutscenes in that area. There is only a scene when the level starts and when you enter the Queen's lair.
-
And don't forget the scene when you exit the Planetoid.
-
lol :D, but still there is nothing to trigger that anomoly.
-
Hello! The teleporters are buggy! Bugs!
There are bugs in the teleporter!
-
Wasn't there a movie about a bug in a teleporter? ;)
-
I got it, Jeff; WillyP. ;D
Now I feel special! ;)
-
Hah. Usually when you hear D3 and bugs, you imediatly think of how D3 has it's hiccups.
-
Serves me right for never having bothered to watch that particular movie.
Tho the concept did get a nice re-hash (however brief) in Monsters vs Aliens.
-
Ahh, that's what I thought, it was a gag. ::)
-
Movie? The whole level was about bugs! IIRC the briefing warned about the teleporters being buggy.

Movie = The Fly (there's a bug in the teleporter)

Musta been an MS product...
-
WillyP, Prepare for beatings from InsanityBringer. :P

I really only hate people who hate windows for easily-avoidable problems that don't even normally happen.
And he didn't use M$. That's just retarded and the thing that usually annoys me. But to be honest I beginning to hate MS as a company. A good product but the company now worships DRM which is a pain to the end user (aka: me)

Who knows, might have been Open Source. ;)
