Title: Rebirth Problems
Post by: Scyphi on July 21, 2012, 02:39:01 PM
So, interesting little dilemma...

In D1X-Rebirth, I have a problem of whenever I go to pick up a weapon in the game, it automatically crashes, and brings up an error message reading "Primary weapon not found in option list" (or something along those lines). This tells me that the relevant data for said weapons is missing, or the game cannot find it, but I don't know what it might be and where to locate it.

Otherwise, funnily enough, the game runs fine. Everything works perfectly...up until you try to pick up a weapon. If you never picked up any weapons at any time during the course of the game, I have reason to believe that you could play any level without a hitch. And it's always weapons. Dunno if it's limited to just primary or secondary, or both, because rarely do I ever get far enough to try and find out. All other powerups function fine (that I've seen, again, I don't think I've ever gotten far enough in a game to test every one).

This has actually been going on for awhile, but at first I had thought it was because the version of Rebirth I was running was just old (and it was by several updates), so I figured I should try updating it first before trying anything else. Haven't had time to actually do it until now, though, and now have it all up to date...to no avail. The bug continues as described above.

Anyway, any input on the matter is desired and thanked in advance. :)

I've had some problems with DXX before, but never something like that. One thing that I would try, is copying the whole game folder onto a computer that you know DXX works on (if that's possible for you, I've had that help me with figuring out the problem before).

As far as the data file, I would guess that it would be a component of Descent.hog, but the game won't even start without that. I suppose a mod might mess something up, but I haven't seen very many D1 mods that work with the weapon data.

Best luck in fixing it.

Have you tried reinstalling the actual game files that Rebirth uses?
I think Wraith is right, it sounds like a problem with Descent.ham, which is in Descent.hog.

But that's just it. In case any of you are unaware, there are numerous computers in my household all of which typically have Descent on it. So what I did was just copy and paste the files from one computer onto my laptop, from which it WAS working on said computer, and CONTINUES to work on said computer. Of course, the file did go from a computer running Windows XP to a laptop running Windows 7, which, again, is part of the reason why I first suspected it was just due to the game files being out of date.

But since any number of things could go wrong with this copy/paste method, I'm actually not too surprised there are problems. Yet I did the same thing with D2 Rebirth, and it works completely glitch-free. Hmm.

Anyway, I think Kaiaatsel's right, and I should try re-installing the actual game files (or more like, properly installing them in the first place). So I'll try that Monday and get back in touch on whether or not it worked.

I've had a couple times when DXX didn't work after copying the files over. It's one of my least favorite problems, because it's always so hard to figure out exactly what's wrong. I've had DXX conflict with system settings and/or background programs before, using Safe Mode or shutting down background processes with the Task Manager might help if re-installation doesn't work.

UPDATE: didn't try the re-install as suggested, but as it turns out, I didn't have to.

All I had to do was make a new pilot file.

See, the old one had gotten corrupted or something, or so I figure.

...

In retrospect, I probably should've thought to try this sooner. :P

Thanks for all the input anyway. :)

Ah yes, the ever-finnicky pilot files.
