G'day all.
I can't tell you how awesome it is that there's still a cache of folk who appreciate Descent. Back in the day I used to be a fine pilot... but that was a long time ago. :)
-<WillyP>- found me on Facebook and tossed me an invite, but I know Kaiaatsel heard my music too. I don't know who originally stumbled across "Lost in the Mines" it or how far it's been shared here in the community, but I'm happy it's sparked some feedback.
It has theoretically been accepted by ocremix.org, although they haven't posted it yet. I guess in the face of all the other video game music competition it doesn't quite cut the mustard?
Of all the tracks I could have remixed, the original version had a whole lot going for it, and I still felt that I could add to the piece while doing it justice in the end. Honoring the original while bringing something new to the table was paramount.
Hoping WillyP will jump in here now. :)
Cheers,

AFAIK I'm the first one who found it. I'm kinda surprised that Alieo didn't find it first though.
I did hear some clipping at the end of the piano solo part.
And yeah, that's how I prefer to do remixes too.
Staying "totally true" equals boringness.
Of course... I think it fits better for game21 than game12. Not for any real reason except that it feels more emotional (i.e. closer to the end of the story) and also has that feeling of deep space (Uranus vs Jupiter :P).
But on my remix album, game21 will be the one that gets the vocal remix ;). I haven't decided on lyrics yet though.
Did I mention "welcome to Planetdescent" yet?
-
Ah, I hear what you're talking about. Yeah, I was listening for hard-clipping, but there's some soft-clipping due to too much tube distortion. Where'd you come across it, if I may?
Thanks for the welcome! :D
-
Allow me to also say ... Welcome to PlanetDescent.net!

Ditto that, and I want to say that the "Lost In the Mines" remix is awesomely astounding. I was seriously blown away by it. I will never forgive ocremix.org if they don't add it to their collection.
Well...maybe not never...
But I would be grumpy with them for a long while. :P
-
Haha! Appreciated, Scyphi.
I had genuinely wondered if I was singing down a well. Since that's not the case after all, I'm encouraged to start another. Do we have any favorites in the audience or should I pick one and surprise you?

I mentioned a remix album that I want to do, with some help.
Would you be liking to contribute to it? You'll probably end up being the star and overshadowing my work.
I would request game06. It's one of my favourites (and my brother's too). We could have a competition, see who does the better remix of it... we'd just need to find a judge.
-
Descent 1, right?
-
Yep.
-
Tough one, because it's sparse and a little eclectic. I wouldn't have chosen that one on my own but it's good to be challenged. ;D
And sure, I'd love to contribute and collaborate. :D

While you're at it, D1, game08, please, please, please, please, please. :D

Been awhile (April 2011) but they got around to it!
Sweet!

Ok, I'm confused. What did they post? Cuz I'm not signing up for twitter.
-
You need to have Twitter to view that? Sorry!
Here. Here's the non-Twitterized link.

Awesome, OCremix pulls through! :D Great to see another Descent remix on that site. It's certainly been WAAAAAAAAAAAY overdue. ;D

And, on the front page here now... Hope you don't mind, I copied your quote from the OCR page... Descent Music Remix by cfx (http://www.planetdescent.net/index.php/topic,951.msg13822.html#msg13822)

(And thanks for the extra intro Willy!)

This is what I said regarding your remix on the news topic on the front page:
:o :Jawdrop:
Wow, I have almost no words for this. This Remix is superb, extremely well-done and maybe I could dare to say that is the best remix of a Descent song I've listened to.
The quality of the arrangement is great and the new parts composed by cfx are refreshing and pretty well done! Great selection of sounds also, nice guitar parts and some nice synths here and there! (thumbs up for this)
You're a very good musician! Congratulations for making such a great remix! :clap clap: :D
