Seems I'm ready with this importer now.
As usual it checks for the Descent3 Limits (3000 faces / 10000 vertices) but I could insert a choose-box to select parts of the 3ds file, if it is designed in several parts (subs).
This way it's possible now to decrease faces/verts so they fit into the limits, or just to load the parts you want to import.
After playing around a little more with this importer I will generate a 3DS-Micro-Tut and load it up to Fischlein ( http://www.descent3fischlein.de/home.html )
Then I will upload D3Edit to the update server, later I will upload the zip file to the usual places.
Here a free 3ds file I found in www which didn't fit into the limit. I didn't select all parts to import and textured it with the D3Edit align functions.
I found an other 3ds file , I don't want to use it anywhere, but I think it's an good example to show importers result.
I uploaded the 3ds micro-tut to Fischlein and the new D3Edit update (build 2.1.41.50).
