I figure you might want a crack at this... my response was the Fusion Cannon one.

Numero Uno: The Megaton Hammer from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Hands down. Sure, it's big, it's slow, it has virtually no range, and it doesn't dish out nearly the kind of damage that it should, but there's nothing more satisfying than throwing down in a fight with a Megaton hammer. It just looks and sounds like it hurts, and ultimately, that degree of physicality with a weapon makes it an automatic win.
Numero Dos: The Flare from the Descent Series. Dealing almost no damage whatsoever and serving primarily as a short-lived light source, killing your opponent with a flare is the ultimate insult to add to injury. Nothing says "fresh meat" like a player whittled down to 0.5 shields via flares.
Numero Tres: The Triple Red Shell from MarioKart. Kart racing is a violent affair wrapped in a shiny, kid-friendly package, and sometimes, you gotta do what gets you ahead. When a trio of red Koopa shells emerges around a player, you know he means business. Simultaneously acting as a shield and as a homing rocket launcher, the triple red shell rains destruction upon all who dare approach, resulting in whole seconds to be added to it's victim's lap times.

I've always liked the vauss.

Huh, I dunno, there are alot of good VG weapons out there...
For Descent, though, it's probably the Gauss gun. It's like the Vulcan and the Vauss combined into one weapon, with great sniping capabilities. :)

The blood sword from Final Fantasy II
capable of devastating the best of bosses thanks to its strange damage system where it does damage exponential to the victim's health.

I like napolm BURN!!!! :D

My best weapon is the Descent3 mass driver. My favorite is the Fusion Cannon.
-
Probably Helix or Phoenix cannon.
Though my favourite weapon in Descent is level 5 lasers (especially with D2X-XL's light trails). Imo the level 6 laser sound sucks.
Outside of Descent... the Portal gun (it counts, right?). :P
-
Favorite weapon outside of Descent: BFG9000 (oh yes...)
Favorite weapon in Descent: Plasma Cannon. Was a big fan of this weapon since 15 years ago...

Oooh, I'm going to have to agree to that one. A Portal gun would rock if it was real. :D

When it comes to descent, I love the D1/D2 plasma cannon. A little less damage than laser level 4 quad, but it keeps things stunned for ages.
The only fusion I really liked was D1's. D2's kinda sucked (especially in mp), and D3's is really nice in MP but I never liked it that much in SP.

Big Goron's Sword, it's what I strive to get every time I play OoT.
Doom 3 ROE Double-barrel Shotgun. it owns everything in one hit.
Halo:CE Fuelrod Cannon. Especially when modded to fire rapidly with like 5 bolts each time. I can rain fiery hail down on bases with it. :D

I think the plasma's damage/second is higher though because it fires so much faster.
I can take out most robots in one hit with D2 (rebirth) fusion if I charge it enough. And it makes the minibosses less scary.
When I play D2X-XL I still set the fusion power to D1 though, because it's just more fun.

Nah, I did calculations. I can't remember them offhand but the quad lasers won in the end.
In any case I can recalculate them. I'll use Laser level 4 quad and data taken from D1 using PiggyDump:
(all damages per bolt. Quad lasers fire two "dead" bolts while the two others do 1.5x damage)
Laser level 4 damage: 13. This is base.
Quad Laser level 4 damage: 19.5.
Plasma Damage: 11
ROFs are expressed as the amount of seconds before you can fire the next shot.
Laser ROF: 0.20 sec (rounded due to fixed imprecision)
Plasma ROF: 0.15 sec
Laser dmg per sec: 19.5 (base damage) * 5 (shots per sec) * 2 (two projectiles) = 195 dmg (lots)
Plasma dmg per sec: 11 * 6.66 * 2 = ~146.52
These values are not entirely precise due to fixed point precision.
I could do the D2 calculations if really wanted, but I have no interest in fumbling around to get Descent Manager running at the moment and HamEDIT is still nowhere near complete.
