Title: Garry's Mod: Descent 3 ending
Post by: NUMBERZero on March 17, 2010, 10:02:07 PM
I am recreating the Descent 3 ending in a sandbox game called Garry's Mod! So far, I have made all of the scenes in space (except scenes where you see the characters). I timed how long those scenes are in D3. 57 seconds. If I made 57 seconds of video, it took 2hours and 30 min to do all of that! XD And I need to redo a 5 second scene too. Add another 10 min!

Just thought I'd let you know. ;)

How's that going to work technically?

Or are you going to "only" make a video and place it on Youtube?

I'm putting it on YouTube like the other 350 videos. :P

Here's a teaser!

Note how close that scene looks to the original. It's pretty close!

Hmm, true, and while I don't know much about this sort of thing, but I'd think that'd be an easy scene to do.

I'm going to hold out to see your variation of Shiva exploding, however. ;)

UPDATE:

I am almost done with the sequence in space. I just need to make the Material Defender say "Easy money. That's what I like" and I'll be done with that portion. Making that might be an additional 30 min because I am animating close up shots.

Total work time: 5 hours 20 min

Wow that was kind of a cool teaser.  Although those planets look dangerously close to each other lol.  Can't wait to see it then.  I also like how you said "A sandbox game called Garry's Mod."  I think you mean, "THE sandbox game," ;).

Hey, that computer looks like it's doing a wireless connectivity option (Ohhh!  wireless power, too!)   ;D

j/k

I don't know if you can, but you might want to do some cables for that.

It'd take me about 2 hours to redo that...

The voice actor of Wallace Breen (the guy in the suit there) has died.  :'(

Robert Culp
August 16, 1930 - March 24, 2010

We were deeply saddened to learn of the death of actor Robert Culp on March 24, 2010. We were fortunate enough to work with Culp during the making of Half-Life 2, when he wrestled invisible headcrabs, expressed a passionate interest in animation, and taught us all how to bring a character to life from words on a page, as he voiced one of gaming's most beloved villains, Dr. Wallace Breen. He will be missed.

My favorite performance by Robert Culp was his portrayal of Trent in “Demon with a Glass Hand”, an Outer Limits episode from 1964. It was low budget but he helped make it a true scifi classic.

Things are getting a little exciting around the studio (jk, there's no studio ). I'm all the way up to the part where the MD says, "we've got a few issues to resolve." The part where the MD walks over to Dravis is clunky. I took it in stop motion and it was hard to place him, not to mention the fact that the ragdoll kept forming into a frail old man just because I saved the day before with him still frozen in a certain position. He looks like a spaz walking over there. If I was to set up some kind of rig, it'd be even worse. I could animate the legs, but not the arms.

I'll be releasing another teaser soon, but there are 2 scenes that are both cool and I cannot decide which one to use. I need your help to decide.
Your choices are:

A. Shows Dravis, the door exploding, and then Dravis having a seizure (shock waves from the explosion ). (I also snuck in a referance to Dr. Hax (you'd only know him if you watch Gmod videos often))

B. The MD removing the table and then saying "we've got a..." (Amazing animation with the mouth when he says his line)

B is a little more of a spoiler than A.
What'll it be?

I've put this up over 4 different forums. I will tally the results on 4/10 (saturday next week)

Spring break is coming up and I will have more time to work on it.
Total work time: 9:20

I'm going to hold out to see your variation of Shiva exploding, however. ;)

You will NOT be disappointed.
Garanteed.

I'll be the judge of that, thank you. ;)

Not to say that you haven't been doing a good job with this, of course, judging from what I've seen thus far. :)

Or your money back!

And I need votes too T.T

To B, or not to B, A is the alternative.
