Title: AVOID Match.com
Post by: VANGUARD on December 16, 2012, 10:11:00 AM
I have decided to re-join Match.com. Getting tired of being single. Still occasionally think of Karen. But anyway,

I joined again, and the typical thing happens. Someone shows interest, I whip out my debit card to pay to actually see who it is that is interested; and it's a bot.
I'm tihnking to myself, why am I even doing this? I did it, and oh boy, am I pissed!
I've had at least, a total of 20+ messages in two days, messages being "They're interested in you"! "Nice pic" "Instant messenger", "winks". 99.9% are bots.
BOTS! The whole damn f'ing match.com is filled with bots. I never saw it this bad. Did they get hijacked or what?

Just a warming for you guys. I will never use their services again.

The one that I see recommended is plenty of fish. Or something like that.

You should read this guy's blog: The Private Man (http://theprivateman.wordpress.com/)

I read a few lines. Seems kind of true from what I read. Maybe he is saying the same, but I think guys are getting sick of the BS from women. Women are 100 things they need in a guy. And online dating is to blame IMO. Now you can select who you want, and just wait for that type to come in.
Thing is, a woman may want a guy that makes $150,000+ a year, may be 6' 1", great hair, great body, a PhD.
But may come across a guy that makes $80,000, 5' 9", not bad hair, nice body, and only a college student. They may be made for each other.

I'll never forget what happened to me. I talked with a girl online, or wanted to that is. Never happened. Maybe one email here and there.
Forgetting her pics, I did start talking with a girl at a local grocery store. We talked for a bit, and then looking online months later, discovered "it's her!"

We did go on a date, but I was not interested in her. too many red flags.

I don't want to just look for sex. I fear I am slowing getting here. I want a woman to love me, spend time with me; grow memories, go out driving somewhere, plan a future, etc.. but I get turned down a lot; internet.
and I think as a result it does damage inside. You begin to feel that they're all the same, not wanting to take any time to get to know you; then you begin to think; having sex sounds good. that or just hide in your bedroom and shield yourself from girls.

This is why I think online dating typically isn't a good idea. I mean, sure, I have heard stories where it works out for some people wonderfully, and kudos to them. But I think that, on average, it's better to just do it the old fashioned way, that way you can work to bypass a lot of those issues online dating presents.

But that's just IMHO.

I am all for the old fashion way. I just don't know where or how to really start. I know one co-worker at work that MAY help; but he's odd.

I closed out my account, made sure I wasn't being charged another month. What a rotten company. Too many bots, the site itself doesn't work. I say "disable IM's", and they still popped up. When I say "close this windows IM box", I mean "close it!" but it still popped up.

Never again! Not Match.com anyway. maybe no other.

Plenty of Fish has nothing but bots and booty calls on it. OkCupid! is nothing but booty calls. Everyone lies about the 100 questions you're supposed to answer on OkCupid!. Women on those sites just wanna get laid and lack substance.

I used to be on plentyoffish, but I never got a reply basically. Most girls saw my email, and deleted it. never replied. too many questions to go through just to get ignored.

I met my Wife at Together. Never did any online dating, or even visited plenty of fish, but I know someone who uses pof and recommends it.

I met my wife at a social gathering.  If either (or both) of us had been doing the online social/dating scene ... we would probably not have gotten together.

I cannot recommend local social interaction enough.  There is so much more you learn about each other face to face that you can never get online.

I'm all for the old fashion way to meet; offline, face to face. But I don't know where to really go to do this. Maybe I'll ask my friend again. He figured some gaming like convention. I'm thinking anything. well, that would suit me some anyway.

I had a bad dream last night that my old friend from Wisconsin wrote me a letter. A real letter, with a piece of paper, stamp envelope.
I opened it up, and it was someone else, like you'd get online; a bot. a scammer or a porn bot. I'm thinking to myself "they even took over the old fashion way of communications."

They did, it's called junk mail. ;D
I don't understand why impersonation is legal in one type of media but not in another.  I guess authorities can't do much about it if you impersonate someone who's not real, and that's a lot easier to do online.  Just a guess.

What I don't have any guess about is why advertisers think they could make you want to buy their product when they advertise in a way that will attach such a negative feeling to their brand.  I guess the consolation is that the joke's on them, these people behind the bots are only defeating themselves.

it costs so little to send out junk mail, they can get by with a tiny percentage responding positively.

While they turn off ten times as many potential customers who might otherwise have been interested.

advertising or online dating sites? goes both ways I guess.
Match was one consideration, but with all the bots....no thanks.

Spam bots on sites like that, where you must pay to see that you got spam.

that's Match.com for sure. I love how you get your profile up, and then later on "someone winked/showed interest". But you can't see any profile, no nothing until you whip out your card and pay. then you find out, that person is in other state, or simply vanished.
