And that concludes all of the Vintage Dreams project I've been putting off for five years now. I'd like to make a new variation of each world (a Quartzon mix, Brimspark, Limefrost spiral) for each of the 4 songs, but I've been very busy lately. Got my CDL 3 years ago and drive trucks now, got engaged two years ago, and lost my father last year. Lots of changes. I simply don't have time to devote to Descent related stuff lately. I still pop Descent music on every now and then, of course. Y'all be good! Hopefully I get the D2 files done before 2030?

GAME26 (Heaven's Gate Mix) posted by Alieo in Descent: Orchestrated January 07, 2013, 01:32:37 AM 52 1
This one was a MAJOR pain in the ass to record in spite of the fact I only changed out a few instruments. In the first half of the song, the French horn was only audible on the left speaker, so this took some nitty-gritty editing to get it where I wanted it; I had to independently record the French horn as a solo track, reverse stereo channels with audacity, then paste it into the beginning of the song. It was freakin' ridiculous. Also increased the pizzicato strings an octave, changed out the echo drops for a marimba because I didn't like how the echo drops sounded when they go from left to right to left to right really fast, but the vibraphone does the job and maintains that "heavenly" element I was going for.

MORE changes: harps, a flute, a dulcimer and a few more changes to give it a slightly different feel. I kept the crystal sounding thingy cuz that just goes with this song, but removed all synthetic pads. Also, a surprise ending on the drum track.  ;)

Brought back a familiar sound with this instrumentation similar to the demo version of the Descent Title theme.

Title: Poison Dart

Correlated Song: Death

Correlated Levels: Artifact Research Station, Exodus Research Facility, Morabi Milk Mine

Project: Solarian

Description: Acid-Video-Game.  Kind of cinematic.  I'm considering submitting this to Miner Wars, but I haven't decided yet.

Minimalist techno-trance, in the style of Half Life 1 and 2, but with a Chinese/Japanese/(Korean?) feel.  There are some deliberately ambiguous cyborg voices "singing" as a neutral lead to fill in the gaps between darker and lighter parts of the music that otherwise wouldn't flow together at all.  The main point is that there is no one correct interpretation of the lyrics, they're made so that different people might hear different words (even what I typed into the speech synth doesn't count as correct... I went to the lengths of moving some words on top of each so that they get said at the same time, to increase ambiguity).
Even though it's minimalist it's still pretty dynamic.
And no, the title has nothing to do with any kind of Red Fatty.
