Edgard Varese - Un grand sommeil noir December 09, 2010, 08:57:19 PM 567
Edgard Varese, the sculptor of music.

The poem's by Paul Verlaine:

Un grand sommeil noir
Tombe sur ma vie:
Dormez, tout espoir,
Dormez, toute envie!

Je ne vois plus rien,
Je perds la mémoire
Du mal et du bien...
O la triste histoire!

Je suis un berceau
Qu'une main balance
Au creux d'un caveau:
Silence, silence!
Final - Quark December 06, 2010, 09:20:26 PM 476 3.09 (2 votes)
Final is Justin K. Broadrick's "other" project. This track is off a CD that's long out of print... Last couple of times the album showed up on EBay, the CDs went for $50 and $100...
Oxygene Part 2 - Freeware VSTi Only December 03, 2010, 12:56:24 PM 436
Well you can reproduce all the trickery of the Frenchman... See the comments to this video on Youtube.
Oxygene 1 - Eminent Strings December 03, 2010, 12:51:58 PM 420
The main instrument in Jarre's "Oxygene" is not a synthesiser, but an electronic organ, the Eminent 310U, fed through a "Little Stone" phaser.
Misery Loves Co. - Drowning Man October 25, 2010, 04:37:15 AM 400 2
A cover of The Cure song by the now-defunct Swedish band, Misery Loves Co. Their albums are long out of print.
The Jan Garbarek Group - "Brother Wind March" October 24, 2010, 03:16:59 AM 399
Jan Garbarek is the musician who says "every note has to have a meaning".
Jesu - Hard to Reach December 23, 2010, 10:31:09 AM 397
Jesu - which is the latest "rock/metal" project of Justin K. Broadrick (Napalm Death, Godflesh, Final, Ice, God, Techno Animal, etc. etc.).
Living After Midnight October 24, 2010, 02:48:12 AM 384
The godfathers of all 90s' metal.
Godflesh - Crush My Soul October 24, 2010, 03:08:24 AM 372
This isn't the most concise example, but it was Godflesh' approach to rich, large reverbs/space combined with drum machines the inspiration. Also Justin K. Broadrick's complex delay/clean/distorted/delay electric guitar setups (you can hear one on Game06.mid, also the distorted guitar in Game12.mid is layered).
Godflesh Live 2010 - "Christbait Rising" November 25, 2010, 08:35:48 AM 368
Godflesh were a major influence on all industrial metal, it was Broadrick who managed to create the "thick massive guitar" sound. What you hear on D2's CD soundtrack is repercussions of Godflesh songs, like this one.
Jan Garbarek & Marilyn Mazur - Totem Dance October 24, 2010, 03:10:31 AM 366 4.97 (1 vote)
This is what real tribal-style percussion sounds like  :o
The Jan Garbarek Group - "Once I Dreamt A Tree Upside Down" October 24, 2010, 03:11:33 AM 353
JP - Another Thing Comin' October 24, 2010, 02:56:39 AM 350
For reference: this is what classic metal guitars sound like. Not like that thinnish plastic-sounding stuff in most synths and wavetables.
Black Sabbath - Into the Void July 28, 2011, 11:17:48 AM 132
Stephen Fry & Hugh Laurie - The Bishop & The Warlord July 19, 2011, 10:08:27 PM 120
Gary Davies introduces "The Bishop & The Warlord".

Woo! Get seriously down to that. Well now it's time to crank it up and tune it in, with some back to back fat beat, and have ourselves a rocking good time and no messing with the Bishop and the Warlord! Give me at least five!
