Title: Amnesia: The Dark Descent
Post by: Planet Orange [phx13] on December 15, 2010, 06:48:30 AM
Never, have I played such a terrifying game in my life. I started playing yesterday and havent been back to it simply out of fear. The atmosphere is so awesome and there is never a point(so far) in the game where you feel safe. I swear every time I open a door, there is something there that will jump out and get me. Thank you Frictional Games for getting the survival horror genre right.  If you haven't picked it up yet, do it NOW!

I'm not sure why you're saying thanks to Frictional Games in this forum, but that's okay I guess. I haven't picked that game up yet. I did play the other three Penumbra games on Linux.
The third, Requiem, was sort of annoying grabbing those keys, or whatever it was again. But overall, yeah, an interesting game at that.
I think early of next year, I will download it and see how it is.

P.S. Does it come with the same sort of soundtrack files that the other games came in? Some of those songs are pretty cool and dark/creepy.

Meh, I'm not into survival horror.  I could barely get through Half-Life 2 (and I'm still not quite through it).

I swear those poison headcrabs were designed to give a revulsion response in all earthly life.

Alterfox sees poison crab:
Headcrab: hissssssss
Fox: "Yelp!" :runs to bathroom and throws up:
:comes back slowly:
:reloads game because Freeman died:
:throws all his grenades at where the headcrab was:
:checks to make sure it's gone:

Headcrab: hissssssss
Second headcrab: hissssssssss
Third headcrab: hissssssssss
Fourth headcrab: hisssssssssss
Fifth headcrab: hissssssssssss
Sixth headcrab hissssssssssss

Fox: OMG THEY'RE MULTIPLYING!

Yes there are .ogg files located in the music folder of the main directory.

I understand your point and I usually will never put plugs in for games but I made an exception for this one. :P

There was an easter egg in Penumbra:Overture, with a crowbar stuck in ice. It belonged to a Freeman. I believe this easter egg was to do with Half Life 2. I remember people talking about that in the Penumbra forums.
btw, guess who I am in the forums? dead give away, same avatar.

Looks interesting, I can see just from watching the video that it looks pretty scary.

I've had this game since mid-october. It is indeed the scariest game i have ever played, but it was amazing. Still is. :D

I suppose that's possible. anything can make people laugh or get scared, like clowns.

My mom and I thought some parts in "Twilight" are actually comical. My friend on the other hand, takes it seriously.
We're all different.
Question for me, which OS should I get this game? that's the spooky part, and actually, just plain stupid. sorry.

Probably some type of windows, because I believe you can only get it on steam.

Unless of course, you live in Europe or Asia. They released multiple hard copies of the game for PC in Russia and Germany, as well as the UK (I THINK!). Still, a lovely game in itself, try the level editor out sometime. :D

I made the purchase a couple nights ago, but been so busy. I think around the Christmas/New Year holiday, I will try it. I actually purchased all four games.
I had the Penumbra collection but something happened to it. I must have cleaned out my computer, and discovered only the serial number was still present.
oh well, $32 isn't bad for four games. Hard to complain.
