This poll inspired (ripped) from this thread: http://www.planetdescent.net/index.php?topic=612.msg7553#msg7553
When I was a kid and someone told me the pyramids were aligned with the Sun and the stars, I wondered why anyone would build something so big just to tell time (giant sundial?).
Be creative. :D

OK, I voted for the Egyptians .
Although of course, there are also some more pyramids in Mexico, south america, China, Indonesia, (and let's not forget the Nubian pyramids!) and some etc, the Egyptian ones are the most important and charateristic ones (and some of the best aligned with the stars, that is part of the topic).
Also I love egyptian culture, so... 8)

I was told it was the Nephilim that built it. I tend to believe that the most.
a landing platform? on the tip? that's creative :)
old fashion wireless tower.
-
For laughs, I put bored aliens. :P
But historically speaking, best evidence we have suggests that the Egyptians at the very least participated in their construction in some shape or form.
-
that part about working with someone who is usually drunk and not helpful, is nice.
-
You fools! The Goa'uld forced the Ancient Egyptians to build them in order to honor them! And the Stargate really is under Cheyenne Mountain!
BUT I did say that the Ancient Egyptians build them so I voted for that. :P
-
@ Omega: technically speaking, though, if sources are to believed, there is a second Stargate located in San Francisco Bay, not far from the Golden Gate Bridge. You just can't see it because it's located inside a giant flying city that's cloaked at the moment. :P
-
I have some ideas, for fun, on "why" it was built, but not really "how"
"You're no fun anymore" (Monty Python's Flying Circus)
-
Scyphi, I thought Star Fleet opperated out of there.
:)

I thought it was the Sirians (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serious_Sam)!

They are the data access points for the world size computer that you and I are all part of ... trying to calculate the answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything.
Of course, with a little mathematical calculation we may find that the pyramids are located at a harmonic to the Earth's magnetic field and during an ancient flooding of the Nile a rare ferrofluid (http://www.google.com/images?um=1&hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&tbs=isch:1&q=ferrofluid+art&revid=1955869180&sa=X&ei=mDEtTYOMLIb2tgOA3MWBBg&ved=0CDcQ1QIoAw&biw=1280&bih=610) condition occurred ... then the sun came out and it dried. Presto! Pyramids in the sand!
-
I always thought it was funny that those people thought "Life, the Universe, and Everything." was a question. It's not even a full sentence.
Pick a number, any number.

42.
Someone had to say it. :P
@ Omega: Not for another century. ;)

Slavery; humans with their sense of entitlement suppressed.
Either that or we were helped.
Somehow I really dislike the idea that we were 'assisted' and that our technology was reverse-engineered from something extraterrestrial.
It just doesn't match up with the advances that were made in the Second World War, when the first programmable computer was made through necessity from bits of a telephone exchange.
