I'm sorry. I forgot. What is the reason for this change?
EDIT: Since we're on the verge of upgrading, I figured this needed addressing. I noticed some time ago that the glow around the letters in the site logo is cut short. Seeing I made the logo (and thus have the original file), I've sat down an tweaked it. It was actually pretty easy, just needed to adjust the canvas size. :)

(http://www.prepare4descent.net/p4dfiles/lmao.gif)We gonna upgrade to SMF2 because it is newer and better.
Mmm, but something else I just remembered. The blue background for everybody's posts won't work too good for the MPD forum. Could there be a way to rig just the MPD to have black instead (as that works best for it)?Me thinks he has a point there. Is that an option?
I think the style he's using has the whole background as blue, not just quotes.Mmm, but something else I just remembered. Of course, it isn't very often that people actually use the quote function while in the MPD...
Scy, in the Gimp, there is an option to change color to alpha. Very easy to do, just use the dropper to get the right color, and a couple of clicks and your there.
What would be best is if the background scrolled with the page rather than "sticking" there as you scroll. Maybe that would be the best of both.Oh god no. Scrolling backgrounds piss me off to no end. Unless I'm completely misunderstanding what you're saying, I haven't actually checked it out as I honestly can't remember my password :/
I think it needs some sort of background, whether static or scrolling. It looks kind of wierd with that shade of blue on the black foreground and background.
I just saw this for the first time since I got back from my trip not 3 hours ago. I LOVE the badges! They look good! But how many posts will you need to advance to whatever robot? I know my posts are in the 200s and I'm a Class 1 Drone on there, but someone with, say, posts in the 600s is still a C1D... Just curious what you intend the post per robot to be.There is no way to export those setting from the test site to here during the upgrade so I won't make any changes to the post counts there. Once the upgrade is complete it is easy enough to change. I will probably make the top tier some retarder high amount of posts like a million or something, because we now have so many badges. Maybe use hexdecimal numbers like 8, 32, 128, 1024, etc...
I need be e-bandit permanently.
But you're just going to say the same thing you've said for your last 10 posts in the shoutbox.
Good thing "no" now means "yes".
@ Omega: You can at least offset the power output of your screen-saver by having the computer switch off the screen after a certain period of time of being idle, and then hibernate after a certain amount of time after that. Most computers come with these settings (or one like them) by default these days. It's especially useful for laptops when trying to conserve battery power.
As for the test site...it hadn't occurred to me that you were trying to simulate the old .com site. That explains the prevalence of blue. :P I think Vanguard's right though, it's just too much blue, at least with that particular shade (I keep saying a darker color might work better). I even went and compared it with the old .com site a little (which was lots of fun, BTW, I haven't seen the .com site for a few years now) and I realized the old site had more black than blue more often than not. In fact, the only things that were blue was the borders and the posts themselves (save the MPD forum). In other words, your intents was in the right place, but I'm just not sure it's working for us.
As for the lightning background, it gets the job done. Haven't really decided yet. Actually, I might have an idea about a possible replacement, but I'd have to make it first, so we'll see. :)
That's exactly what I do, Scyphi.
No.
What if the bot pattern was used for the background instead of the lightening, and a solid color smooth gradient (to preserve the sculpted appearance) was used for the menu graphic instead of the robot pattern? A reversed gradient could be used for the current selection graphic, thus giving the selected choice the appearance of a depressed button.
Maybe it would be better not to have any background, but preserve the bot pattern where it is.
Like I said before, why do we even need a new theme? I like Dusky 2 as it is, otherwise I also liked the first theme tried (with the metal background) better than the themes we're trying now.Because as I recall SMF 1 skins do not work in SMF 2, and this is a SMF 1 skin and we're upgrading to SMF 2
I believe he tiled it to give an impression of what it would look like on the website.
That's what it sounded like to me anyway.
And this is why phpbb is good.Like I said before, why do we even need a new theme? It needs to be cropped to only one repetition. The browser does the tiling. And it will be viewed at full size, did you mean to reduce the size?
For the record, the PHPBB 2.0->3.0 broke 2.0 skins in just the same manner. I'm not saying I dislike PHPBB over this, but skin incompatibilities are very common across major revisions of forum software. And this is why phpbb is good.Like I said before, why do we even need a new theme? Hey, I see boarshed... I wouldn't have expected them. Despite being so dangerous I always saw them as rather obscure -- maybe because they were so near the end of D2.
However, the spider and the spawn didn't give that impression (maybe because they have a D1 parallel?).

I really just kind of picked robots at random, and used whatever outlines worked out the best and could be recognized from just that (some of the robots, given to the angles I found pics of them in, were unrecognizable and appeared as mere grey blobs. Like the red and green hornet bots from D2. Both of those didn't turn out too good for this, at least from the pics I was grabbing them from).
The only deliberate robots I picked was the D3 Pest bot, because the same bot appears in the bar I was trying to mimic, and the lifter bots, as they're iconic of Descent.
Can everybody name the robots I used? ;)

That's not what I've heard. Although it did deprecate the old style of skins, they still work, but are not supported. For the record, the PHPBB 2.0->3.0 broke 2.0 skins in just the same manner. Lemme try!
Mmmh...
In order (starting from the upper left), I see the next bots:
First row:
Shark, Omega Spawn, Medium Lifter, Squid, Stormtrooper, Boarshead, Class 1 Drone, Diamond Claw
Second row:
Advanced Lifter, Old Scratch, Gyro, Orbot, Again Stormtrooper and Boarshead (as they are in the middle of both rows :P), D3 Pest and D2 Pest.
:)
Concurred with Crash, that actually does look very nice, though I think I will probably want the dark theme in the end. :)
I would recommend against using the Descent title font for the menu selectors, though (the "home," "Forum," "Help," etc.) simply because the font can be hard to read for some. I would recommend the Descent briefing font instead, as that's both readable and Descenty. :)
