What's up PD. Thought i'd kick off this months Desktops of the Month. :3
-
Very nice.
Here's mine. Thought it'd make for a decent desktop.
-
still the same, I change desktops every few months, not every month.
-
same
-
courtesy of Metal Beast for this awesome wallpaper-

I NEEEDZ! Can you upload the picture?
-
I had to change mine as I had some virus or something and the instuctions to remove it didn't work completely. So I wiped it out and installed Ubuntu Linux! I liked Ubuntu ok, but some of my favorite proggys arn't availible as a Linux version and didn't run well under Wine on Ubuntu, so I reformated the drive and re-installed WinXP.
-
Ubuntu IS a bug!
-
@WillyP ... I noticed the OpenOffice 3.2 icon ... You might try checking out IBM Lotus Symphony (http://symphony.lotus.com). Does the same file formats as OpenOfiice, just as free, plus it has a nice interface to it (some think a nicer and more intuitive interface than OpenOffice). Doesn't have the database program tho.

Ubuntu IS a bug!
I didn't encounter any bugs. I installed some Windows programs under Wine, but they did not run well.
You might try checking out IBM Lotus Symphony (http://symphony.lotus.com).
Thanks, I'll take a look at the website, but I'm good with OO and I don't use it a lot.

My desktop has been the same since... Well, I dunno..
I guess it isnt the *same* since I now have a new computer, but with the same desktop picture.
-
Desktop changes are very, very rare for me.
However, I did install a card table as an extra desk so now I have more desk space.
-
Screenshot of my Windows desktop. I might toss a picture of my Ubuntu 10.04 partition soon, as well. I like keeping a clean desktop, but it's kinda sad how academic it's gotten. The only game on my computer right now is Unreal Tournament 2004, and only for the occasional bored-at-work skirmish with the other IT guys (but most of the time I'm doing homework).
-
I change my work desktop pretty often (but change my home systems rarely) ... and today I changed a work system to this:
-
Nice picture, TP, I can just barely see a mine reactor blowing up in the distance. ;)
-
The humble netbook desktop. It's running a wallpaper slideshow BTW.
-
Aaah! Clutter!
-
it could be much, much worse.
I used to be one of those guys who unloaded everything and their dog onto the desktop. Then I got rid of all of my downloads and filed them elsewhere. Then I removed everything except for a folder randomly named "Temp" because it started as an experiment but quickly became a temp file dump. Then I removed that and all of my program icons, filed them into a launcher named KwikStrip, and ended up with this (http://basementnet.us/ryan/terradesktop.png)
I used to use the Vista sidebar a bit (if only for the little cpu/memory usage gauge gadget) back when I used vista, but I turned it off when I realized it wasn't bringing much while interfering with KwikStrip

S-Priest's desktop looks very organized and functional, plus you can clearly view the background with minimal obstruction. Very ideal.
An example of a truly cluttered desktop: http://cybernetnews.com/new-poll-how-clean-is-your-desktop/
or even worse ...

Tech: it's two custom shells, Geoshell+EVWM. EVWM provides two menus, App and Task Manager (the app menu is open). The task manager menu allows killing/hiding/closing apps, and switching to any window (even hidden). Geoshell is still being maintained, the concept is bars. Bars with plugins, and there're plugins for anything - tasks, system tray, application shortcuts, clock, command line, Winamp and other player controllers, etc. Bars can be always on top, partially transparent, raised/hidden, etc. It's very useful, and with minimum clutter. And there's a plugin which reads the standard Windows Start Menu (plus all system shell directories: control panel, net connections, etc.).

The quick launch there reminds me a ton of the tray on my friend's computer. He has practically all of those little weather-trackers running and a whole bunch of other things, and sets it to never hide.
On his small monitor, I had no idea how he could use the taskbar.

found this one last night

I don't see what the big issue with icons on the desktop is, some people will see it as clutter, others as handy, hey whatever works for you. Sometimes I like to put things on the desktop to remind me I was going to do something with them.
-
What I mean was that half his screen was covered up when he took the screenshot of his desktop. Not that his desktop was cluttered.
-
Well here's my desktop. Same as it's been for the past 3 years, +/- a few icons, + a new screen.
-
I'm replacing Zero temporarily just cuz I like my Typhoon. :)
-
Wow, very nice, Z! That's probably the coolest SoH ship design I've seen.
-
Mipmapping (perhaps with anisotropic filtering) would probably make those little black grate things look a ton better
-
Here is my desktop, still the same picture it has been for a couple months now, but Ive added a couple new Game/Tool icons.
-
Since icon shots are all the rage appearantly, here's my current KwikStrip:
The dual-d3 icons are for the game itself and d3.descent.cx, respectively. The dual serious sam icons are for the first and second encounters. and the blanks are results of a few hd moves.

Actually, I increased the resolution of them (to get my D3 doors in HQ) from like a measly 62x62 picture to 300x300 or so.
-
There is a difference between mipmapping and higher resolution textures. higher-res textures will help in some cases but this is not one of them.
