Title: Video game movies. Which one should be made?
Post by: NUMBERZero on August 28, 2009, 11:18:29 AM
This should (I hope) be a tough one since other people have their ideas about what a movie should be like and how it should work out with the given choices. Fell free to reccommend others, but try to vote anyway.

Only 1 vote. You can change vote. You can see the results without voting first.

Sorry. No Halo on the list. They are already doing one based off of the first book.

Well, I voted for Descent video game (the obvious choice). Personally, I think there's a lot of potential, and I already have ideas about what it should be like. 8)

I do like descent, but i dont think the games could be made into movies.

And i also like The Conduit, but the more that i think about it, i dont think it could be a movie. It seems too "All over the place".

I actually will have to go for Freespace for this one, because the story seems to be really solid, actually.  :)

As long as I like Battletech (Mechwarrior) and Descent.
My vote goes to Metroid (my top favorite Nintendo game ever).

I'm going to have to go with the Descent books. :P

*coming back from Nursing Foundation test-cramming to momentarily lurk*

I just had to post on this one:

I'll have to say Freespace. I think it would have the potential to redefine the whole space-sci-fi genre... In fact, using the whole subspace concept, I was trying to think of a scene that would rival the "Death Star Trench Run" in terms of it's being memorable. I came up with the concept of having the hero being sent into a subspace portal with the destination being the core reactor of a gigantic Shivan juggernaut capable of destorying the GTVA fleet. A GTVA capital ship sends a beam straight into the subspace portal with the hero, chasing it at lightspeed into the portal out of subspace into the reactor, thus destroying the hero's ship and blowing the Shivan reactor to pieces. It'd be epic.  ;D

The only reason I thought of this at one point is because I came up with some ideas for FS2 campaigns not too long ago.

*goes back to studying, carry on*

I don't think the Descent games have enough depth or characters to be made into movies, but even though I've only read Descent: Equinox, I think at least that book is more than good enough.

I just re-read the options here and wanted to let you know that MDK stands for "Murder Death Kill." Violent, eh?  ;)

Oh, I was really torn between Republic Commando and Descent.... I really, really liked the story behind that one.

Freespace FTW! It has the structure and a story that can be reformed into a movie.

Dude, I would be stoked if they made a movie about the Transcend campaign!

Freespace would make for a good movie, too, but I'm still holding out for a Descent movie. :)

I'd go for "None of the above".

Video games should not be turned into fiilms. I can't think of any film made after a game that I'd consider being good.

Did you miss the options with the books? At least go for a book.

BTW everyone, there are Battletech books too.

Well, I don't know about that. This has nothing to do with the list posted, but Sonic the Hedgehog, while it hasn't necessarily had a movie per say, it has had some fair TV shows productions made. Nothing that'd get it say, an Academy award, but they're watchable. :) Granted, that's only if you're into the franchise, and I somehow doubt people here are going to be.

Point is, that if one game franchise could do it, there's hope for others. I, personally, have been giving the matter a whole lot of thought, and I think Descent at the very least could succeed. :)

/me is actually quite into the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, but dislikes the cartoons.

Though the Sonic X anime was kinda stupid, it was better than what most people give it credit for. That said, I'm mainly an old-school fanatic; I've played through Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic 3D Blast, Sonic Adventure, and Sonic Adventure 2 (Never have played all the way through 3 or Knuckles). Interestingly, a season of Sonic X is based on SA2.

Another thing: I quite thoroughly enjoyed Shadow the Hedgehog, despite its wonky controls and completely senseless overuse of the word "D*mn" throughout the game.

I have the Sonic Mega Collection, Sonic Heroes, and Sonic Riders for PC, plus both Sonic Rivals games for PSP.

I like Sonic X, although I think the voice acting is awful and the theme song is stupid.

I swear it was murdered by 4Kids. They should have had a "4Teens" that left in all of the good stuff.

Dr. Robotnik was not pleased.

Load it up, go to scene select, next, and then the last one. XD

I agree.

And furthermore, 4Kids always claim that 'rice balls' are either 'donuts' or 'sandwiches'.
Stupid, stupid 4Kids
(Okay that was off-the subject, let's try to get back on topic)

But-but, I haven't put my two-bits in!
/me derails topic for a post longer. :P

Like I said before, none of the Sonic animated shows are spectacularly great, but they aren't that pathetic, either (usually). I personally thought Sonic X was...okay. Beat watching a wide majority of the other shows on the air at the time. And it had potential, that, unfortunately, did go mostly untapped. And the voice acting...yeah. And the Japenese version, from what I've heard had a few more scenes that were cut from the English version, and actually made things a little bit better.

But the important thing is that it was, despite popular belief, a step in the right direction. I'm actually pretty hopeful that Sonic's next venture to the little screen will be better still.

As for the games, I haven't played them all, but I've seen most of them played before, and with the exception of Sonic '06 and a quirk here and there with some of the others, they're all pretty good, particularly story-wise.
/me re-rails thread now. :)

Actually, we are discussing a video game series made into a television program. That's not too far off the original topic.

Now THAT'S off-topic.  :D

Rule 25. Relation to the original topic decreases with every single post.

Rule 26. Any topic can be turned into something totally unrelated.

Rule 8 clearly states...

Rule 29 was what Ezri, AKA, (insert his old name here) posed as back at .com. That was a laugh.

Karx likes to exercise rule 9 a lot.

Rule 32 is something that is often mandatory for a lot of things.

I excercise Rules 8, 25, and 26 to justify the posting of this. XD
39 and 40 are priceless.

Rule -3. Every rule above 100 must be followed. No exceptions.

You do not have the real rule list. Which means...

Rule 102. You are made of fail and AIDS.  :D

Speaking of the Descent books...

The one thing I didn't like about Descent Equinox was that it jumped around too much between characters and thus didn't have any real character development - except for Dravis XD.  I liked the way he seemed to be going mad near the end.

BTW - have any of you met my friend's friend "Heat Vent"?  My friend met him -3 years ago...  (That was a running joke we had.)
