I think most of you remember the stickman game (the actually good one) that I never really finished, which looked like this:

well, i decided that i could do a lot more if i completely remade the engine from scratch knowing what i know now, to make it a lot easier to work on and also give me a chance to bump up the sprites a notch. i worked on it yesterday and this morning and so far i have smooth controls and movement, solid trees, water hazards (which look a little weird), fire particles and a new overworld background music theme--and everything except for the un-toppable Funky Stickman has been made to be more modern in terms of my gfx skealz:

i will commence work on the first Skull Person today, and make it look a lot better than it did.

Ohh...this brings back memories. In fact, I think I still have a copy of the original stashed away on me hard drive somewhere... :P

So what about that 3D version you were doing?

unfortunately that's further away from being reality than this is :/ i'm not saying i'll never make a 3D stickman game, it's just a lot more work.

The spaceshooter bit at the bottom-right of your first screenshot looks very good. I like the trails behind those ring-shaped missiles.
Do you have a page that shows this off a bit more? You'll probably see from my site I have more than a passing interest in spaceshooters.
What are you using to write that by the way?

@crash: i'm using GameMaker. i don't have any more screenshots than this, but it really wouldn't be so hard to grab more :P actually i have the entire game (which is like a demo since it's incomplete, lulz) available for download here (http://www.mediafire.com/?wt5xtmwmytf). and btw, if you think that looks neat, you should see my other little project, which was becoming somewhat of a 360° Xevious-esque shooter:

now i've finished the eyeball enemy (already got it working in-game but was too lazy to grab a screenie, plus you can't see it animated that way):

I dunno if this coincidence, but the eye kept firing it's blue projectiles along with the rhythm of the music. It wasn't a constant barrage - it was random, but each shot landed at least on an 8th note of every measure (only I would notice something like that). Anyway, it's looking and playing great!

the reflective ice is giving me some issues with the viewport, but it looks neat. :P
edit: someone told me i was doing it wrong, so now my viewport issue is fixed, which means i can show you one of the other rooms 8)

these little creeps reproduce and they can take over the entire world if you aren't careful. the only way to kill them... is to BURN DOWN THE FOREST!

Maybe shrink the water texture slightly. It looks a bit too zoomed in.

do you mean the tile size or the texture detail?
meh, i'll see if i think about fiddling with it later. right now i've got to make some more versatile wall sprites >.>

Well, I modeled it and cut only 64 x 64 of the grass and water textures from the picture Canceler provided. Therefore it created that massive tiling effect. Im sure I could have cut alot more than I did. But it was easy, and it worked somewhat, so yeah.

i was working on a new tilesheet today. now i can build better walls :D i might change the pipe/fence thing to look like wood or iron or something less stupid.

Hmm, I don't think the water is rendering right on my old piece of crap computer (using an ATI Raedon x1950 pro videocard), unless it's supposed to scroll off with a black trail and then scroll back on.

Downloading now... But for future reference that's a really crappy download site. The first time I tried it, it just kept taking me to Yahoo Jobs when I tried to download it :-\
edit: Played it. Not really much to do right now, definitely a solid framework though. Needs a Controls screen though >.<

yeah, i already started setting it up to be control-mappable. on another note, i think you have a hijacker....i've never been redirected like that.
oh and IB, your problem might be because the texture i was rendering wasn't 2^n in size, fixed now though so see if this one (http://www.mediafire.com/?b6jstf64r0bgg1w) works.

Didn't work much better. I think it's a issue with the horrible shader support on this old card, as I fed it to my dad's machine (crap forgot to get specs) which has a newer card and it worked fine.

oh yeah, small note: the new .RAR appears to be the same as the old one: FCIV returns the same md5 sum for both.

oh, i re-uploaded the same exe. i ran it from the IDE and thought that that had saved a new exe but it didn't. o_o here is the real updated version (http://www.mediafire.com/?657o34e8ib7lp34)
@foil: the current controls are arrow keys to move, F for flamethrower, D for pistol, S to make spitster not move, and A for the non-functioning inventory screen.

It is great that you still continue with your game.
Hehe, water hurts me more than enemies :D, and I can't make the partner follow me to the second floor at main map :(, he walks slowly at purpose 'cause is a dumb, right?
I really loved the character faces :-*
