My computer has a virus?
« on: April 29, 2011, 05:40:15 AM »
Today, when trying to access this forum, I was greeted with a page telling me my computer had a malware infection?

WT bloody F?

Edit:

When trying to load the forum from my Linux machine I am getting the same screen. A virus on my Linux box? Good one.

That's what it sounds like.
Take a look at this topic (and especially the first post, second paragraph) if you haven't already: http://www.planetdescent.net/index.php?topic=731.0

It sounds definitely similar, but if that's the case I don't think it's anything to worry about.
I'm not sure how that page works, this is just what came to mind.  I could very easily be completely wrong.

Hm, sounds like the security plugin is a bit agressive... or needs updating.

like the other link provided, it reminds me of this:

http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,89891.0.html *

some saw the site as viagra, some saw the PCLinuxOS "myhome page"

* - the site above is not the questionable site. it's the link to the topic talking about what others see.

Not seeing the connection, vanguard. WillyP has already stated it comes from a security plugin he installed. Unfortunately, with Dynamic IPs, IP-based blocking is pretty pointless.

I guess the only connection is, some see this malware/virus page, and others don't. that's all

But it's not really the same. A viagra website and a warning that your computer is engaged in malicious activity (not saying "OMG U R INFECTED DOWNLOAD THIS!", just saying "you may infected, check your computer") are of a totally different nature, and in this case their origin is different as well.

From what WillyP has said about it, I'd just ignore it and continue hating hackers ;)

*facedesk* First, that was a joke in reference to my name. Second, you know what type of hacker I was referring to...

but some see this thing when accessing planetdescent. some saw that viagra and others dont.

i guess I am saying there is something in common with those two. some see something not normal, while others still see the normal page.

Yes, I suppose. But we already know the cause of this, so comparing it to that just seems to me to be a useless comparison that, if anything, just sows unnecessary fear or worry. The fact that somebody before you was doing bad things with the IP is not really anything to be concerned about in comparison with the site getting hacked to display viagra ads.

I must be the "ONLY" person in "THE ENTIRE WORLD" that sees something similar between the two of them  ::)
The problem isn't the same. How they get it isn't the same.

Only that some can view a site normally, and some can't.

I rest my case, since, I really am the ONLY person that seems something similar.
